FUNDING UPDATE

Individualised Funding Update from the Director of Southern Music Therapy – as of May 2024

On behalf of our families and people we work with, Southern Music Therapy have been in contact with various disability support services to see if the recent Whaikaha announcements are going to affect the Music Therapy Service our client’s access.

We are pleased to say that at this stage our clients are able to continue using their Carer Support or Individualised Funding under Respite as their payment method.

Except from Whaikaha:

At Southern Music Therapy we write summaries that state our purpose for the sessions and the outcomes we expect, we always aim to do what is best for the client, offering sessions in the home or in the community and moving forward with a plan to transition into a group setting if suitable.

We will continue to keep a close eye on any changes. If you have any concerns, we encourage you to read this to your case manager, - sometimes they are unaware of this benefit. If you still need support with this then please email as info@smt.nz.

Kind regards,

Kimberley Wade

Director of Southern Music Therapy

Some things may have some therapeutic benefits but can also be understood to be a respite activity.

These are not forms of therapy that we consider to be within another agency’s funding responsibility. Whether they are treated as an activity that provides respite, or as a form of therapy, they are within scope of flexible funding.

This includes:

  • Equine therapy;

  • Art therapy;

  • Music therapy;
